Review Highlights

Dulce Dough is a from-scratch donut shop and bakery on St. Simons Island, Georgia, run by owner Ryan Carrier as an homage to her grandmother. Guy Fieri visited for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in what he called his first-ever dessert-only stop on the show. The shop specialises in brioche-based donuts that blend Southern comfort with French pastry technique — laminated dough, rum-flamed glazes, and composed fillings that go far beyond what the word "donut shop" suggests.

  • ·Baba au rhum donut — brioche donut glazed with a rum syrup (white rum and aged rum, flamed), filled with caramelised pineapple jam, and topped with a dulce diplomat cream infused with roasted white chocolate. Guy: "The pineapple ties everything together, gives you a little acidity — delicious. It's not too sweet, there's a lot of flavour in it."
  • ·Pecan sticky bun — brioche dough rolled with cinnamon sugar, baked atop brown sugar caramel and pecans, finished with cold butter. Guy: "It's sticky and not too sweet — like crossing a sticky bun with Grandma's pecan pie. I just really like it."
  • ·Chocolate donut — brioche donut with chocolate glaze; described as "fabulous" on arrival.
  • ·Maple bacon donut — sweet-savoury brioche donut with maple glaze and bacon; prompted the reaction: "Have you ever been to a place like this?"

Guy was thoroughly impressed, calling Dulce Dough "amazing and inspiring" and "great from start to finish — from the decor to the food." He emphasised that the "Grandma's Kitchen" warmth undersells the technical ambition: "When people come here to be transported to your Grandma's Kitchen, they don't have the beginning of the understanding of the depth of the culinary journey that they're about to take." A rare dessert-only Triple D stop that he clearly considered worth the sugar rush.
