Review Highlights
Laura's Cafe Two is a family-owned soul food restaurant on West University Avenue in Lafayette, Louisiana, serving Southern comfort food for nearly six decades. Keith Lee visits with his family during a Louisiana food tour — it was the most anticipated stop since he announced he was coming to Lafayette. The experience is a classic Sunday dinner takeout, and his family declared the customer service a 10 out of 10 — the first perfect score they've ever given — noting the staff was hugging customers and having full conversations as if everyone was family. They even threw in an extra turkey wing after one fell off the bone.
- ·Stuffed turkey wing plate — a massive, fall-off-the-bone turkey wing served with rice and gravy, cream corn, and potato salad. "This tastes like somebody auntie back there throwing down." Tender, seasoned to perfection, and unexpectedly spicy. The whole plate: 9 out of 10.
- ·Fried catfish — "Season. Flaky. Crispy. Falling apart. Buttery." Keith praised the restraint in seasoning: "Sometimes it's easy to over season catfish." With hot sauce, it's a 9 out of 10. As-is: 8.5 out of 10.
- ·Cream corn — "A little sweet, a little spicy, a little salty. Does not taste like canned corn at all. It might be canned corn — if it's canned corn, it's the best canned corn I've ever had."
- ·Rice and gravy — "This gravy is soup. Soaked down, cooked down, seasoned to perfection." Keith was so impressed he asked for the recipe on camera.
- ·Potato salad — the one miss. "Not my kind of potato salad. I like yellow potato salad. This could use a lot more mustard, in my opinion." But he noted the combination of everything else made up for it.
- ·Mac and cheese — bright orange with a gelatinous, processed-cheese texture. "Taste like pimento cheese. I'm personally not offended at all." But the processed quality dragged it down: 2 out of 10.
Keith clearly felt the hype was justified — over 500 people told him to come, and the turkey wing plate and catfish delivered. The standout was the overall comfort-food execution: the turkey wing, rice and gravy, and cream corn all hit at a high level, even if the mac and cheese and potato salad weren't his style. He left a $3,000 tip for the staff and paid for everyone in line at the restaurant. "I absolutely see why 500 people told me to come here. It's Sunday dinner. It gave me real comfort food vibes — sit at the house with family and just chill. I'm happy we came."
