Review Highlights
Parish Biscuit Co. is a breakfast and brunch spot in Lafayette, Louisiana, known for Southern-style biscuit dishes and what locals call the best breakfast in town. Keith Lee visits with his family during a Louisiana food tour, grabbing takeout to try in the car — his signature review format. The restaurant offers a full gluten-free menu alongside its regular offerings, and despite a busy dining room, the food came out in 22 minutes.
- ·Breakfast biscuit — a homemade biscuit with fried egg, cheese, sausage, and thick-cut bacon. "The biscuit is so rich and buttery, it fills your whole mouth. The bacon is very smoky, real savory." Keith gave it 7 out of 10, but said with syrup or a sauce it'd be an 8.7 out of 10.
- ·Hot honey chicken biscuit — an extremely thick piece of marinated chicken (boneless thigh or breast) on a biscuit, dripping with hot honey sauce. "The spice hits me immediately — I can tell the chicken was marinated for a very long time." 7.3 out of 10.
- ·Pecan praline pancakes — oversized pancakes topped with praline pecans, butter, whipped cream, and a caramel-like sauce. "Surprisingly, it's not dry — still fluffy and moist. But it's just too much. I couldn't imagine eating this for breakfast and then going to do something." 4 out of 10.
- ·Fish and grits — the standout. Grits cooked in chicken broth instead of water, seasoned with cheese and smoky notes. Paired with a thick, seasoned-to-perfection piece of fried catfish. "The grits by itself, that might be a 9 out of 10. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly smoky, cheesy, buttery." The whole plate: 9.3 out of 10.
Keith was genuinely impressed — especially for a first stop on a food tour. The fish and grits was the clear winner, with grits he called some of the best he's ever had ("seasoned from the rutter to the tudor"). The biscuits were rich and buttery but needed a sauce to reach their potential; the pancakes were too heavy for breakfast. Overall, he was very happy: "If this is any indication of what this food tour about to be, I'm excited."
