Review Highlights
Keith Lee is in Miami, Florida for a stop in his public category series — and this one was voted on by over 60,000 people. He pulls up to World Famous House Of Mac in Wynwood with a simple question: do 60,000 people know what they're talking about, and does this place embody the Miami food scene? His family orders online ($95 worth), so the customer service interaction is brief — but they report it was good. The space inside is "really big and really open," and the menu is built almost entirely around mac and cheese, plus a burger coincidentally named Keith's Favorite. With a mac and cheese sampler platter and a few sides on deck, Keith sets out to see if the hype holds up.
- ·Truffle Fries — Keith calls himself a truffle fry connoisseur who eats them at home almost every other day, and sets a high bar. These are seasoned well with a good amount of truffle and parmesan, but the fry itself tastes like a freezer fry. "If you gonna put truffle and parmesan on top of a fry, it gotta be high quality for me." Score: 3 out of 10
- ·Jerk Chicken Mac and Cheese — the chicken is seasoned very well and carries the dish, but the mac and cheese itself falls flat: "it's like cheese and a little bit of milk." Not the worst he's had, but far from the best. Score: 6 out of 10
- ·Barbecue Beef Mac and Cheese — the mac and cheese on this one is noticeably better seasoned than the first ("this kind of disproved my theory"), with a cheese crust that pulls off in one piece. The beef, however, is "extremely salty" — though Keith acknowledges salt tolerance is personal. Slightly better than the jerk chicken version. Score: 6.7 out of 10
- ·Chicken Turkey Bacon Ranch Mac and Cheese — the whole cheese crust comes off in one go, and it's "way too much." Extremely salty with too many competing flavors: "chicken, turkey, bacon, ranch — none of those compliment each other to me." His least favorite of the sampler. Score: 3 out of 10
- ·Original Five Cheese Mac and Cheese — the best one by far, and "it's not even close." Best crust of the bunch, actually stays intact when he lifts it. He tastes garlic, a little spice, and all of the cheeses coming through clearly. "Less is more, and they do the classics well." One of the highest mac and cheese ratings he's given in a long time. Score: 8.5 out of 10
- ·Keith's Favorite Burger — a coincidence of naming, not named after him. Loaded with mac and cheese, spicy aioli, turkey bacon, tomatoes, and lettuce. The spice is good, but the same problem recurs: too many ingredients that don't complement each other. "I'm okay with a burger that has a lot of toppings, but if they go together — in my opinion, none of those go together again." Score: 3 out of 10
- ·Pineapple Lemonade — the drink he was most excited to try, and it delivers. You can tell it's freshly made: "tastes like just pineapple juice with a little bit of lemon and some sugar." Refreshing, especially after the salty food. Score: 8 out of 10
Keith doesn't give an overall numeric score, but the takeaway is clear: World Famous House Of Mac shines brightest when it keeps things simple. The original five cheese mac earns one of his highest mac and cheese scores in recent memory, while the loaded variations — jerk chicken, barbecue beef, chicken turkey bacon ranch — all suffer from overcomplication. The burger has the same problem, and the truffle fries are undone by a frozen base. The pineapple lemonade, fresh and bright, is the sleeper hit. He closes by thanking all 60,000 people who recommended the spot, praying they continue to reach their target audience.
About
World Famous House of Mac is a mac-and-cheese-focused restaurant in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood, founded by Derrick "Chef Teach" Turton. What began as a pop-up has grown into a brick-and-mortar destination with multiple locations, built around customizable mac and cheese bowls — from the signature five cheese truffle mac to loaded versions topped with jerk chicken, barbecue beef, lobster, and oxtail. What visitors say
World Famous House of Mac draws a passionate following from Miami diners, who consistently call out the jerk chicken mac and five cheese truffle mac as the headliners, with the cornbread and house-made lemonades as essential add-ons. Owner Chef Teach is frequently praised for his warmth — he's known to visit tables personally — and the hip-hop-heavy atmosphere gives the Wynwood location a lively, casual energy. The main friction points are long wait times (often 45 minutes or more), prices that some feel outpace portion sizes, and an automatic 18% service charge that catches first-timers off guard.
